I love sharing simple tips to make housecleaning a little easier, and healthier! Today I want to show you how easy it is to make a basic surface spray that has antibacterial qualities, is much cheaper than store bought cleaners, smells amazing, and has no harsh ingredients.
All you need is a spray bottle, lavender essential oil, and water. The sweet orange essential oil pictured above is totally optional, but it adds to the nice smell, so I like using it.
Lavender has natural antiseptic properties. I wouldn't use this spray alone to clean up raw meat juices, or the toilets, or other especially germy places, but it is perfect as a daily counter spray, or wherever you need to do a quick wipe down.
Just mix it up, spray the surface to be cleaned, and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes before wiping down. Easy as can be!
Fill spray bottle with 1 cup water. Add 10-20 drops lavender essential oil. Optionally, add 10-20 drops sweet orange oil. Close bottle and shake to mix. If you will be using again after it has set awhile, just swirl it around a bit to mix it back up before spraying.
PS- I have seen spray bottles at the dollar store almost every time I go, usually near the cleaning supplies. And the oils can be found at health food stores. Initial costs may seem kind of high, but keep in mind that you are using only a few drops at a time, so each bottle will last a very long time!
Also, if you want to add more of heavier duty but still natural antibacterial punch to your spray, include 1/4 cup white vinegar in the mixture. The smell of the vinegar will dissipate after awhile. Happy cleaning!
